Eye Health Tips for Better Vision & Daily Care
Healthy eyes are essential to your overall well-being, productivity, and quality of life. At Reticure Eye Centre, we
believe in educating patients with simple, practical, and effective eye care tips that can help prevent common
vision problems and protect long-term eye health.
These tips are suitable for all age groups — children, adults, and seniors.
1. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule
To reduce digital eye strain, take a break every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away, for at least 20
seconds. This helps prevent headaches, dryness, and blurred vision.
2. Maintain Regular Eye Check-Ups
Getting your eyes examined once a year helps detect problems early, especially:
• Cataract
• Glaucoma
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Refractive errors
• Computer Vision Syndrome
Early detection = early treatment = better outcomes.
3. Stay Hydrated & Blink Frequently
Dehydration and reduced blinking cause dry eyes, especially in screen users.
Remember to:
• Blink often
• Drink at least 6–8 glasses of water daily
• Use a humidifier if possible
4. Eat Vision-Boosting Foods
Add eye-healthy nutrients to your diet such as:
• Vitamin A: Carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes
• Omega-3: Walnuts, flaxseed, fish
• Vitamin C & E: Citrus fruits, almonds
• Lutein & Zeaxanthin: Leafy greens, eggs
These support retina health and reduce age-related vision loss.
5. Protect Your Eyes from UV Damage
Wear 100% UV-protection sunglasses when outdoors.
UV light can increase the risk of cataract, macular degeneration, and corneal burns.
6. Limit Screen Time & Use Proper Lighting
Long hours in front of screens cause digital fatigue.
Use proper lighting, reduce glare, and maintain a comfortable distance between your eyes and device.
7. Don’t Rub Your Eyes
Rubbing eyes can cause:
• Corneal damage
• Eye infections
• Increased irritation in allergies
• Weakening of the cornea
Instead, wash your eyes with clean water or use lubricating drops.
8. Keep Your Glasses & Contact Lenses Clean
For contact lens users:
• Wash hands before touching lenses
• Replace lenses on time
• Never sleep with lenses in
• Use sterile solution only
Clean lenses = clear and safe vision.
9. Get Enough Sleep
7–8 hours of sleep helps your eyes:
• Lubricate naturally
• Recover from strain
• Maintain visual clarity
Lack of sleep worsens dryness and eye fatigue.
10. Use Eye Drops Only as Prescribed
Avoid over-the-counter eye drops for redness or pain.
Self-medication may mask serious issues.
Always consult an ophthalmologist before using any drops.
